Ingredients:
- 140g icing sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 egg yolk
- 250g butter - cut into small cubes
- 375g plain flour
To decorate:
- 200g icing sugar, sieved
- edible food colouring, optional
- edible gold and silver balls
- approx 2m thin ribbon cut into 10cm lengths
Step 1
Throw the icing sugar, vanilla extract, egg yolk and butter into the bowl and then stir this magical portion with a wooden spoon. Gradually start to add the flour and mix it in the portion until it becomes a firm dough. After this, shape the dough into 2 flat discs and then wrap them like Christmas presents. Chill the dough in the winter wonderland of your fridge for 20-30 minutes!
As the oven preheats to a cosy 190°C, line your baking sheets with non-stick paper, creating a stage for the upcoming Christmas cookie spectacular.
Step 2
Roll the dough on a lightly floured surface to the thickness of 2 coins. Next, let the holiday spirit take shape as you cut out the Christmas figures using cookie cutters. Then place your merry creations onto the prepared baking sheets and bake them for 10-12 minutes until they appear to be lightly golden
Step 3
Mix the icing sugar with a few drops of cold water to make a thick, but still runny icing. You can add food colouring to make, if you like. Spread it over the cooled biscuits, decorate with edible balls and thread with ribbon when dry.
