In the past 6 months, I have tried countless productivity tricks from gurus on YouTube, and I think I have learned enough to teach and talk about it because I have enough experience to back it up.
What is Productivity?
This is probably the first question everyone who enters the world of productivity asks. The term “productivity” was used in the past to describe the efficiency of production in manufacturing and agriculture. But these days, people use the word to be the measurement or a check box for the efficiency of the work they produce or the things they have done. For example, in my opinion, the more tasks you can check off your to-do list, the more productive you are. Some people might say, “This is like hustle culture (where you only focus on work and don’t have a work-life balance)”. I disagree with that idea, and I will explain why in “The Criticism” paragraph.
Use a To-do List
A to-do list is one of the most important tools in my everyday life because when I finish a task, I open up my to-do to look at what I have to do next. Personally, I don’t like planning every hour of my day because I feel like it creates a strict schedule for you to follow. And when it’s time to do a particular task, I always find myself not feeling like doing it and end up scrolling through social media instead. Therefore, I opt for a well-designed to-do list that I have on every device I own so I can access it when I need to.
The Criticism
When I say, “The more tasks you can check off your to-do list, the more productive you are”, I don’t mean that your to-do list has to contain entirely work-related tasks. For example, apart from study and work tasks on my to-do list, I also have these things on the list too: writing a daily diary, drinking 2 bottles of water every day, exercising every day, and sleeping 7+ hours every night. These tasks list not only make sure I get my work done for the day but also make sure I live a good life by following the to-do I set up for myself.
Personally, I like using Todoist and I’d recommend it. They have a great user interface as well as a great user experience. There is also Karma Level or what I like to call “Karma Streak” that keeps you motivated and accomplishes more.
