This painting was completed in a very short period of time, by oil pastels alone. I used the same sketchbook as I did for P Earth’s portrait, which was published in the previous issue. However, this abstract piece and the realistic portrait greatly differ, such as by their art mediums and my thought processes behind them. In fact, I’m proud to say I hardly had any thoughts or plans during the course of painting this! I’m certain this is the most spontaneous artwork I’ve ever made, which goes along with the message I wanted to convey. I wanted this painting to reflect my perspective on the concept of connections and attachment (since it’s Valentine‘s Day). As you can see, there are many blue and red lines all over the place, and their definition entirely depends on your interpretation. Veins and arteries or human ties or The Red Thread of Fate, I leave it up to you to decide—It doesn’t really matter. Because at the very end, your interpretation will most likely lie under the topic of human connection, and that is the exact reason why you see a heart on the right of the artwork. It is because to me, humans keep each other alive. We find reasons to live, and most of those reasons lie within the bonds we have. Our hearts beat for, and because of, each other.
