Japanese food is very famous in Thailand. There are many well-known Japanese dishes, and Japanese curry is one of them. Many restaurants in Thailand have this menu, and some even sell Japanese curry alone. Gold curry is a popular restaurant that originated in Japan, which has introduced itself to Thailand quite a while ago. There are many branches, but we went to one on the 4th floor of Siam Square One, opposite Katsuya and Tenya. The restaurant opens at 10:30 and closes at 21:00. It is almost always full of people, so it may take a while if you enter the place along with a big group of friends. The main disadvantage of this restaurant is that it has limited space. Sometimes, you may have to bear with a long queue, but in exchange for their delicious dishes, we think it's worth it.

When we got inside of Gold Curry, there were a lot of different dishes on the menu, but almost everything was curry. After choosing the main menu, we had to decide whether we wanted pork curry or beef curry, and then select the size of our dishes. There are 5 sizes available: SS, S, M, L and LL. Normally, S or M are recommended. Their pricing is well worth it, because you only need to pay an extra 20 baht to upgrade to a bigger size. And trust us, it gets a lot bigger. Furthermore, you can add more toppings to your main dish if you want. One good thing about Gold Curry is that they provide us with free drinking water and miso soup. For us, these two are great selling points, because drinks from other restaurants are often quite costly compared to their price in supermarkets, but it's free here. You can even refill your drinks if we want. They gave us miso soup while we were waiting for our food to arrive.

The soup had a good smell, and when we tasted it, it was salty with a sweet smell of miso. As a free side dish, we appreciated it a lot.

Gold Katsu Curry Rice (Beef Curry) Size M

This menu is curry rice with tonkatsu pork and cabbage. When it was served, we saw an oval stainless-steel plate full of rice and curry. On the left of the dish, there was fresh, light green cabbage. After we tasted it, we felt a crunchy texture. It was a little bit bland, unlike other pungent vegetables. The smell was not very strong, so perhaps people who don't like vegetables might be able to eat the cabbage. The pure white Japanese rice was, as expected, stickier and moister than Thai rice. The bottom of the plate was full of rice soaked in curry, making it look even more mouthwatering. The plate had brown curry covered all over it. It had a strong smell of spices that were cooked together. It tasted salty and sweet at the same time, and overall, it gave us a mellow taste. This curry had the smell and taste of tender beef stewed perfectly. However, we think the highlight of this plate was the sliced tonkatsu pork on the top of the dish. The pork was breaded and deep-fried, so it was gold, crunchy on the outside, and juicy on the inside. When eating the tonkatsu, we were able to experience softness, crunchiness, juiciness and a slight oiliness all at once. Once all the aforementioned components were put into a single late, it will be a delicious and perfect combination.

A Millefeuille Curry Rice (Pork Curry) Size S

It was hot Japanese rice covered with rich pork sauce curry topped with crispy yellow fried pork and sliced cabbage. When I bit a piece of pork, I felt the crispy texture covering it and all the ten layers of sliced pork piled up before putting it into the pan. The pork was very soft and juicy. Let’s talk about the curry sauce next. Brown in color, the curry sauce had a very strong taste and a small piece of pork in it. All the things I have mentioned are added to the hot soft Japanese rice. In addition, I ordered sausages with my free topping voucher. The sausages cost 50 baht, but I got them for free. There were three small sausages and tomato sauce on the plates. The sausages tasted delicious, but they were just regular sausages, so I doubt I’ll order them again in full price.

Tonkatsu with Omelet (Pork Curry) Size SS

The curry was rich with crispy fried pork. It's really crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. It wasn’t too dry, and in the center of it was tonkatsu pork. The curry was great, with a spicy taste and smell. When we ate it with the fried pork, it made a perfect combination. The omelet was wonderful, with a well-cooked texture. The omelet was topped with tomato sauce and mayonnaise, and I enjoyed this dish very much.

Gold curry is an excellent and famous restaurant. The price is reasonable at around 200 baht per dish, undiscounted from promotions and vouchers. If you eat Gold Katsu from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., you will get a discount of 20 baht. It was a very good experience to go and try it once. Their curry is delicious, and tonkatsu is crunchy and juicy. Not to mention, they cater free water and miso soup. We do recommend this!
